Are you interested in starting your own clothing line or simply someone who is looking for an inspiration to start your own small business, Kym can share you some excellent tips.

Kym Banguis is the creator of the clothing line Herro Hachi. As unique as her business name, Kym guarantees that her t-shirts are funny, fashionable and, well, unique.

Herro Hachi, based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, was started 4 years ago. Interestingly, it wasn’t started as a t-shirt making business: She was actually wanted to make greeting cards. However, as she decided to go for t-shirt printing, instead, she never looked back. The company now sells t-shirts worldwide.

In this video, Kym shares her story, as well as offering some useful, practical tips on how to start a small business and make it a success. Here’s the recap:

1. Figure out what you want to do

What’s your passion? What will you still do when you are not getting paid? You answer will determine what you are going to sell – and be successful while you are at it.

It’s all driven by passion: When starting out, Kym didn’t know much about entrepreneurship. However, as she wanted to quit job, do something she really love to do, allowing her to set her own working hour, working at home and travel, she decided to plunge herself into entrepreneurship.

As she likes to design and do something creative, she wanted to make… greeting cards.

2. Take action!

Taking action is the hardest – but if you can take action and eventually launch your business, you are better than the rest!

While she was looking for greeting card supplies – fancy papers, glitters, ribbons, etc. – she stumbled on a screen printing machine, and the person she was with asked her, “Why don’t you make t-shirt?” The idea stuck.

Kym then brainstorming for brand naming ideas with her family. She then got this fancy, brandable name: Herro Hachi.

3. Research, research, research!

Kym did a lot of research online via Google, YouTube, forums and talk with other small business owners.

4. Get to work!

After Kym did her research, she started out by creating her own t-shirt at her own bedroom by hand. There were plenty of trial-and-errors – designs that went well and bad – before she finally found her focus.

5. Get connected

Orders were not rolling in right away. She needed to promote her clothing line brand. She attended many events and shows to get her name out locally.

She also took the online route. She started to sell online at Etsy.com and also started her own website, HerroHachi.com. She also uses Facebook and although she hated Twitter before, she finally used it anyway…

Takeaway

Herro Hachi’s story is pretty inspiring. If you think the story is typical, well, perhaps it is. But the story proves that, again, taking action is the most important step you must take. No matter how brilliant your idea is, when you are not taking action, you won’t find any success.
